The Palmieri chapter of Us TOO (the international prostate cancer support organization) meets the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. We meet at the Beacon Hill Retirement Center, 2400 S. Finley Rd., Lombard, Illinois.

Our meetings are always free and open to the public. Wives and significant others are both welcome and invited, and several typically attend each meeting.

As you enter Beacon Hill you will first encounter our “welcome” table where you will be greeted. At the table you will sign in and get a name tag. Assorted complimentary leaflets on prostate cancer-related topics are also displayed on the table.

Newcomers are asked to fill out a “pink sheet” with some basic information about their situation so that we may address any particular needs.

The meeting auditorium is just past the welcome table and to the left. During the meeting, coffee is provided by Beacon Hill, with a “coffee kitty” to help defray costs. Rest rooms are just across the hall. Based on chapter needs, we may pass the hat during the meeting.

Meetings start promptly at 10 a.m. and are moderated by members of the Chapter. Most meetings include presentations by medical professionals who invite questions from the floor and often make themselves available for direct contact during a short post-talk break.

After we reconvene the moderator and others make announcements and newcomers have an opportunity to be introduced. Each newcomer is invited to describe his current situation and indicate how we might help him. Group members often share their input and suggestions and conversations may continue following the meeting, as needed.

DISCLAIMER: None of the Chapter members are medical doctors; we are just fellow patients who have been through the process and many of us have learned extensively about prostate cancer and can thus share that knowledge. Always discuss any advice you get from us with your health care professionals.

We look forward to seeing you at our next Palmieri Chapter meeting!
